Union Berlin is experiencing a bumpy start to the season. After a week of vacation, nine professionals were missing due to illness or injury on Monday.
What happened
Goalkeepers Frederik Rönnow and Matheo Raab are out for the double test on Saturday and Sunday. Phillip Menzel, who last played for Saarbrücken, is currently part of the squad.
Why it matters
A regular team cannot be formed yet, as players like Oliver Burke, Andrej Ilic, and Marvin Friedrich were unable to train at the beginning of the week due to injury or illness. Captain Christopher Trimmel, however, was able to rejoin training on Tuesday after recovering from an infection.
What comes next
After the third test match double pack of the preparation with two games on two consecutive days, Union Berlin will travel to Austria immediately after the game against the Italian top-flight team. From the evening of August 2 to August 10, the summer training camp will take place in Aigen im Ennstal, Styria. On August 9, another friendly match is planned. With a final league standing of 11th in Bundesliga, 32 points, 8 wins, 8 draws, and 13 losses from 29 games in the previous season, Union Berlin still has a lot to look forward to.
