Union Berlin plans farewell to four players Union Berlin wants to reduce their overcrowded squad before the new season. According to BILD, four players are facing departure, including Janik Haberer, Marin Ljubicic, Tim Skarke and Robert Skov. The Iron Ones finished the 2025/26 season in 11th place in the Bundesliga with 32 points from 29 games (8 wins, 8 draws, 13 losses). ## Which players are facing departure? Janik Haberer lost his starting spot under coach Steffen Baumgart and could leave in the summer. Marin Ljubicic, considered an expensive mistake, is expected to return after a loan spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Tim Skarke failed to meet expectations and is facing a return to Heidenheim. Robert Skov, plagued by injuries, is currently only training partially. ## Why is Union reducing the squad? With 30 players, the squad is too large for the Bundesliga and DFB Cup. Union has already signed three new players and plans further reinforcements. The four departures are meant to create space. ## What comes next? The Iron Ones must release more players before signing new ones. Their next opponent is RB Leipzig on November 21, 2026, at home.
