Union Berlin releases Chris Bedia: Striker seeks new club
1. FC Union Berlin has released Chris Bedia for a club search. The 30-year-old forward, who was loaned to Young Boys Bern last season, was absent from Tuesday's public training session. According to coach Mauro Lustrinelli, a transfer decision could be made in the coming days. Union currently sits in 11th place in the Bundesliga with 39 points from 34 games (10W-9D-15L) and a goal difference of 44:58.
Why is Bedia leaving Union?
The competition in the attack is too strong at Union. In addition to Bedia, Andrej Ilic, Oliver Burke, Ilyas Ansah, and Marin Ljubičić are available. Bedia has not yet played this season and is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs, including one from Saudi Arabia. His departure was already foreseeable after his loan to Young Boys Bern.
Injured players at Union
In addition to Bedia, goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow, utility player Robert Skov, and defender Andrik Markgraf were absent from training. Stanley Nsoki and Mekhi Gray are also injured. Tim Skarke did not train with the team. Union has two more friendly matches in Switzerland against Winterthur and Aarau before a short break.
What's next?
Union has two more preseason friendlies before the team goes on a short holiday. The Berliners need to prepare for the new season, in which they have scored 44 goals and conceded 58. The gap to league leaders Bayern Munich is 50 points.
