In a general fitness test before their upcoming Bundesliga season, Dynamo Dresden faced off against Union Berlin in a 2:1 victory that showcased the Zweitligists' readiness for the new campaign. The match was played with an impressive crowd of 25,000 fans, all under heavy rain and chilly temperatures of just 19 degrees Celsius.

The game began with Union taking control, possessing the ball more than Dynamo Dresden. Tom Rothe scored the first goal for the visitors after a right-wing cross (19th minute), while Jonas Sterner was found wanting in defense. However, Dynamo Dresden quickly responded, capitalizing on chances through Inanoglu and Sterner to equalize via Niklas Hauptmann's penalty kick (22nd minute).

Despite Union's dominance, the half-time break saw no further goals. Sören Gonther, the Sport Chief of Union Berlin, commented positively: 'This is a very good hard test against a very physical team. We have to defend well and we are doing it very well so far.'

Ulf Kirsten from Dynamo Dresden had a more critical view: 'We allowed ourselves to be pressed back too much, had almost no ball possession except for one phase after the equalizer, and gave away many free kicks. Union played physically and let the ball run well. That's why it is now Bundesliga.'

The second half saw Dynamo Dresden take the lead through Vincent Vermeij's header (52nd minute) after a Rossipal corner kick. This goal brought warmth to the Dynamo fans' hearts, despite the cold weather.

Both teams made significant changes in their lineups during the second half, with Union bringing in former Dynamo player Dmytro Bohdanov among others. The match ended evenly, with Dynamo Dresden creating more clear-cut opportunities. Coach Thomas Stamm's team seems well-prepared for the new Zweitliga season.
