Lustrinelli announces new signings: Does Union get a true playmaker?

The new Union trainer Mauro Lustrinelli (50) started the preseason in early July. Since then, the Eisernen have not presented any new players. The fans are growing nervous. The good news: The wait for transfers is soon to be over.

After the test game in Dresden (1:2), Lustrinelli revealed: „I am optimistically born. There will be new signings in the next few weeks.“ Until the first competitive game, there are only three weeks left. Then the Eisernen will play in the first round of the cup in Braunschweig (23.8., 15.30). A week later, the league will start with a home game against Frankfurt (29.8., 15.30).

The deal with Zeno van den Bosch (22) was already agreed upon in January. Marvin Friedrich (30) and Stanley Nsoki (27) were signed before the training camp. Clearly, Union needs reinforcement in the offensive midfield. A creative playmaker who creates chances from the game is missing. In Dresden, Woo-Yeong Jeong (26) and András Schäfer (27) tried their luck. Schäfer's qualities lie more in the defense. The Hungarian national player is two-fisted, but not a ball artist.

Scoring is a shared task

Then there is the longing for a sniper. A real goal scorer had the Köpenickers last with Sheraldo Becker. But: In the storm, Union is broad-based. And Lustrinelli does not want a single goal scorer. He says: „In the teams I have trained, it has been made by several players. We reward ourselves as a team too little at the moment.“

To the again meager goal tally in Dresden, the Swiss says: „Today, many players have come to the goal. It's about finishing more decisively. But important is that we get to the chances and then we will also reward ourselves over time.“ Means: Scoring is a task for all players. With Emmanuel Latte Lath (27), Horst Heldt (56) has a further striker in his sights. Such a signing depends on what happens on the sales side in the coming days and weeks.

Union Berlin is currently 11th in the Bundesliga, with 39 points from 34 games. The Eisernen have scored 44 goals and conceded 58 (-14 goal difference) in the last season. They are 50 points behind the leaders Bayern München. The last game ended with a 4:0 win against Augsburg. The Eisernen are on a 2-game winning streak, with a current form of WWDLL.

What comes next?

The first round of the cup will take place in Braunschweig. A week later, the league will start with a home game against Frankfurt. The Eisernen are searching for a creative playmaker who creates chances from the game. The trainer is optimistic that new signings will come in the next few weeks. The fans hope for a quick solution to the longing for transfers.
